Hi All,
Happy Wednesday. It’s July 31 and by the time you read this post I’ll be on a plane heading for my new home in Naples, Florida after twelve years living in Connecticut. I’m very excited about the move, our new house that we’re building and the change of climate. I won’t miss you, Old Man Winter. I don’t care what you say.
The decision to move was a gamble. My husband and I bought property before our CT home was sold. Foolishly, we thought selling would be the hard part. Oh no! Moving is the hard part. Not the sentimental part of saying goodbye to old friends or throwing out something you’ve held onto forever just cuz. No, the actual moving. HOLY COW!
I’ve looked around our house over the last month and wondered how we accumulated so much junk. It reminds me of how much crap we let fall into our writing, just cuz. Being at RWA this month and taking Deb Dixon’s class on voice taught me that even though I have a fairly distinct writing voice, taking a class in the basics reconfirms that just like in your home, you have to occasionally throw out things you’ve held onto in order to clear space and be more authentic.
I can honestly say that I’ve enjoyed my time in CT so much and I’ll miss all of my friends, but at the same time, I’m looking forward to the next chapter in my life. So tell me, did you ever have to move? Where did you move to/from? Did anything about your move show up in your writing?

Blessings to you girl. I had no idea. Florida is a good decision, no more winter. I have moved several times. It’s a tough job, but the best part is emptying out and getting rid of stuff. Making room for the new stuff. Good luck, and all those good and great things. You will be missed.
I used to tell my sons that we could open a furniture moving business. After a half a dozen or so moves, you get pretty efficient at it. I’ve helped friends move numerous times and the first thing I tell them is “get a dumpster!”
We’ll miss you, Jennifer, but so happy for you! New chapters are always exciting:-) Grissom is going to love that new swimming pool. Let us know when you’re ready for a Scribes retreat at the Fusco Inn!

When I was packing to move TO Connecticut in 2011, a wise friend told me that moving was a chance to reinvent your life. I don’t know what it is about CT, but that has turned out to be true. Sometimes we need a little push (or a giant shove) to do the things we’re meant to do.
And every place I’ve lived has turned up in my writing as a setting so there is that benefit!

Best wishes for your new home, and enjoy the snow free weather. I spent my childhood moving, a new state every other year. The good part is you learn to be have a good sense of humor and not to take life too seriously, because pretty soon we would just move and be starting over somewhere else.
